Nonbeating donor hearts (NHBD) are not considered for transplantation due to concerns
about the effects of global warm ischemia (WI) and the inability to evaluate these
hearts prior to transplant. We hypothesized that continuous ex vivo perfusion (CP)
provides a means for resuscitating these hearts and evaluating their viability for
transplant.
