The Board of Directors of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) recently announced the appointment of Mandeep R. Mehra, MD as the incoming Editor of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation (JHLT). Dr. Mehra will assume editorial responsibilities as of May 1, 2009, with the editorship to become effective with the July 2009 issue of the Journal. He follows the editorial contributions of the previous Editors of the JHLT:
Jacques G. Losman, MD: 1981-1985
Michael P. Kaye, MD: 1986-1994
Maria Rosa Costanzo, MD: 1995-1999
James K. Kirklin, MD: 2000-2009
Dr. Mehra's appointment was made following a rigorous search process that yielded 8 initial and 3 finalist candidates. He is the Herbert Berger Professor and Head of Cardiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center, in Baltimore, MD (USA). Dr. Mehra brings to the JHLT an ambitious plan for ensuring the continued growth of the scientific standards and academic ranking of the Journal and to continue to maximize its value to the Society's membership.
